Mount Langi Ghiran Pepper Series Shiraz 2022: Review

Mount Langi Ghiran Pepper Series Shiraz 2022 is meaty and spicy and a bit rough in terms of tannin, but at $16 you feel like you’ve done well. This $16 wine is only available at Aldi stores.

The Mount Langi Ghiran winery is one of the stars of the Grampians region, and this wine is grown in its home town, so to speak. As in, it’s grown and made in the same area, which is a credible start. It costs $16 at Aldi stores. I’ve seen the odd (I didn’t say ridiculous) high score for this wine, and if you’re expecting a wine worthy of such a score, you’ll be disappointed. Gary Walsh at Winefront scored it 88/100, which is about right. In fact Gary’s description is bang on too: “It’s not especially deep or complex, and yes, it has something of what you might call a ‘commercial character’, but it drinks well enough, and I like that it’s not trying too hard.” I’ve bought this wine a couple of times, once to taste for Halliday and once on holiday, on a night when I didn’t want to spend too much. It’s good for that. It’s meaty and spicy and a bit rough in terms of tannin, but at $16 you feel like you’ve done well.

Reccomended?: Maybe-yes.
Paid: $16.
Pros: Tastes more or less like a Grampians red wine should.
Cons: Not a lot of depth or finish.
